How are Volkswagen Vehicles/ Used Cars?

Hi I'm looking around at used cars and I am particularly interested in 2005-2007 Volkswagen Golf vehicles. I have heard that Volkswagen are not good in customer service and their parts are fairly expensive to fix. Any suggestions or past experiencies?

Mechanically, VW's are pretty reliable. My step brother bought a 1984 Scirocco new and did regular maintenance as scheduled. The first mechanical issue was his original clutch gave out in 1999 at 205K miles. His son now owns the car, and its his daily
