Good Samaritan Rescues Driver After Fiery Crash On Highway

A dump truck lost control on a Central Ohio highway, crashes and within moments becomes engulfed in flames.

The crash occurred at about 1 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 670 east near Leonard Avenue.

Chris Schumacher said he was driving along the highway when he saw a dump truck suddenly veer off the road, hit the railing and a light post and then crash into a ditch.

By the time he got out of his car to help, he said, the truck was on fire.

Cell phone video taken by a witness at the scene shows the dump truck on its side with flames shooting from the front of the truck.

“I was thinking to myself, 'This guy is dying or he's dead,'" said Schumacher.

He said that he started running toward the truck, though not knowing what he would do once he got there.

"Then all of the sudden I see the [driver] come up out of the ditch, completely on fire," said Schumacher. "At that point, I just ran faster.  Then once I got to him, he got up to his knees and his hands were [held up] and he just said, 'Put me out please. Put me out please.'"
