McCaskill finally sells troublesome airplane

ST. LOUIS • U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill has finally gotten rid of that "damn" airplane.

McCaskill's office confirmed Wednesday that she has sold her family's private airplane, the source of much political consternation after it was revealed that she did not pay the proper taxes on the single-engine turbo prop.

The plane was sold for $1.9 million — which is less than what she paid for it, her office says —to an ambulance service in Montana.

Flight records show the plane was flown from Kansas City to Montana on Friday.

McCaskill's plane woes began earlier this year when Politico , picking through her travel records, discovered that she sought taxpayer reimbursement for political trips — such as a visit to the annual Democratic confab in Hannibal, Mo.

Later, McCaskill disclosed that she had not paid the appropriate personal taxes on the aircraft, which is owned by one of many limited liability companies controlled
