Honda's Alabama-made SUV outsells its minivan in November

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Honda's Pilot SUV posted the greatest sales gain of any of the automaker's models in November, recording about a third greater sales than it did a year earlier, according to data released by the automaker this afternoon.

The company sold 10,487 of the Alabama-made Pilots in November, a 33 percent increase compared to the same month a year earlier. It sold 9,143 Alabama-made Odyssey minivans last month, down 0.3 percent from November 2010.

The Ridgeline pickup, also made at the company's Lincoln plant , sold 935 units, posting a 7.7 percent decrease compared to the same month a year before. The Pilot had the most momentum of any of the Honda models. In total, the company sold 74,016 vehicles in November, a 10 percent increase over the same month a year ago.

The company continues to feel the impact of flooding in Thailand, said John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president of sales.

"We're looking forward to closing the year on a strong note as production recovers and the all-new CR-V goes on sale this month," he said in a prepared statement.
