What would be the laws regarding owning a tow truck? I was wondering what the laws are for owning a tow truck for private use would you need any special permits or would it be concidered just a pickup truck with a boom/ rollback insted of a bed.
I doubt it, around here(redneck capital of the world Clay County West Virginia) a lot of people have really old ones that they use to tow their car to the races up in teh woods, and they don't have to have any permits, but idk it might depend on your

Towing companies and city drivers have at least a few more weeks to duke it out the old-fashioned way.
York City Council members decided Tuesday not to advance a list of towing regulations until Police Chief Wes Kahley has more time to review nuances in the proposed law.
Officials have been talking since May about ways to curb predatory towing practices by companies they say charge exorbitant fees and make it difficult for owners to reunite with their vehicles.
For example, if the law passes as written, tow-truck drivers could not remove an illegally parked vehicle from a private lot until 15 minutes after discovering the violation. Towing companies also would be required to release vehicles 24 hours a day from a location no more than five miles from the city's municipal building at 50 W. King St. Companies would have to accept two major credit cards and notify county dispatchers of a tow within one hour of a vehicle's removal.
