The 2012 Regal GS, the new sport-performance model of the European-styled Buick premium sedan, is now on sale with a base price of $34,450 (plus $860 freight).
It will be one of the featured vehicles at the annual San Antonio International Auto & Truck Show, which will be Oct. 27-30 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center downtown.
This is a car that's getting noticed by young consumers who are finding out that Buick isn't just a seniors' brand anymore — it has models that are cool-looking and quite fun to drive.
Under the hood is a turbocharged Ecotec inline four-cylinder engine that cranks out a quite respectable 255 horsepower and 295 foot-pounds of torque, giving the GS a serious dose of attitude.
For now, only a six-speed manual transmission is available, but a six-speed automatic with a manual-shift feature (no clutch, of course) will arrive later in the model year.
Other Regal models for 2012 begin at $26,670 for the base model with a 182-horsepower, normally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, and $28,670 for the base model with the new General Motors 2.4-liter eAssist engine, which uses a mild hybrid system to boost fuel economy.
