How to repair paint on my car??

so another car scrapped the back bumper of my car and the paint has been removed. It's not to the point where i need to bring it to a shop to get it repainted. I want to repair it myself, i just dont know what steps to take and what kind of paint to use.

I have had sucess by wet sanding the entire bumper, allowing it to dry completly, then respraying the entire bumper with a similar color. It depends on the make of car or bumper. My late model gold color BMW is impossible to match.. For small
